Marine Thermal Surveys
Why Consider a Marine Thermal Survey?
Marine thermographic surveys are one of the best tools to help you maintain your commercial or residential vessel at a low cost. Marine thermal surveys also allow for predictive maintenance where issues are identified ahead of failure.
This is particularly useful when looking at the engine, due to engine failure often leading to the failure of other parts, whereas the replacement of one wearing part in advance could have cut costs considerably.
Not only do marine thermal surveys allow you to look at mechanical and electrical systems, but they can also be used to detect any issues with the composite materials of the boat. These surveys can detect thermal differences that result from moisture build-up, damp or insulation issues in the hull or cabin areas.
Usually, the detection of these kinds of issues must be done by removing parts of the boat to find a problematic area, whether inside or outside, so thermal imaging techniques are much less invasive and identify problems before more resulting damage occurs.
Marine Thermal Surveys Can Help With:
Mechanical Breakdowns
Thermography can see things that the naked eye is unable to, so, when looking at mechanical equipment, spotting a fault can prevent any problems with the ship further down the line.
Coolant Blockages
Problems with coolants can cause problems with the engine, but the thermal camera is able to detect this by simply scanning across, meaning there’s no need to remove the item from the engine to inspect it on its own.
Fuel Systems
By using thermal cameras to survey the fuel systems, you can prevent any impairment of safety on the ship and ruin the schedule that the ship has.
Electrical Faults
Thermal Imaging can spot electrical faults or failures that could potentially cause problems in the vessel with navigation and other electrics that are used on the ship.
Marine Thermographic Surveys from Thermascan
In a nutshell, thermography enables the surveyor of the vessel to find problems that may not have been spotted otherwise and prevents the inconvenience of taking things apart. Marine surveys help detect anomalies amongst the ship by identifying different temperatures that could turn into problems for the ship. If you choose Thermascan as your ship’s surveyor, you can expect the following:
Before the Survey
You will be issued with a risk assessment and method statement, as well as any other information you may require for the marine survey.
After the Survey
As part of the assessment, you will receive a full detailed report of our findings with both thermal and digital photos of any key components, tailored to meet insurance standards. Once your report has been delivered, don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have regarding our service.
At Thermascan, all of our engineers hold level II qualifications in thermography with experience in test and inspection.
