FAQs
-
The Infrared Training Centre (ITC) is a globally respected organisation offering certification programmes for thermographers. Its courses are designed and led by experts, with guidance based on ISO standards and aligned with the latest industry practices.
Completing a certified ITC course through Thermascan ensures that your skills meet the expectations of insurance providers, regulators or operational compliance teams. Whether you’re a facilities manager, a condition monitoring engineer, or working in electrical maintenance, you’ll leave with practical knowledge you can use immediately.
-
The Level 1 course is ideal if you’re new to thermal imaging or using it as a part of your maintenance programme. It’s particularly useful if you’re responsible for:
Conducting thermal inspections
Creating insurance or compliance reports
Supporting predictive maintenance in industrial or commercial settings
Level 1 introduces the fundamentals of infrared, how to set up your camera correctly in different conditions and how to identify common error sources in the field.
You’ll finish the course ready to carry out basic inspections and report findings in line with industry guidelines.
-
Infrared basics: Understanding heat and temperature differences
Camera setup: Emissivity, reflectivity and ambient conditions
Thermal physics: Heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation)
Hands-on practice: Real time camera work with portable labs
Reporting: Integrating thermal images with reporting software
You’ll also learn how to spot common measurement errors and ensure your camera is correctly calibrated for the job.
-
The Level 2 course builds on Level 1 and is best suited for professionals already using thermal cameras regularly and looking to deepen knowledge. As a Level 2 thermographer, you’ll be expected to guide less experienced staff, recommend inspection methods, and take responsibility for data accuracy and reporting.
You must have completed a Level 1 certification and be ready to present a case study to attend Level 2.
-
Infrared science in depth: Radiation laws, blackbodies and spectral response
Optics and detectors: Filters, coatings and transmission
Measurement techniques: NETD, IFOV, MFOV and image accuracy
Data interpretation: Advanced analysis, diagnostics and corrective actions
Reporting and leadership: Coaching others, refining image capture and producing high-level reports
This course prepares you for greater responsibility and allows you to take a strategic role in thermographic inspection processes.
-
Better Camera Skills
Training teaches you how to work with your thermal imaging camera under real-world conditions, adjusting for time of day, environmental factors and material surfaces. It also helps you understand your camera’s limitations and capabilities, which is key to capturing useful, accurate images.
Confident Image Analysis
Knowing how to take a thermal image is one thing, knowing how to interpret it is another. Training helps you read thermograms correctly, set measurement parameters and flag potential issues before they become problems.
Accurate Reports That Meet Standards
If you’re submitting thermal surveys for insurers or regulatory purposes, certified training ensures your images and reports meet expected quality standards and can be trusted by those reviewing them.
-
Whether you’re looking to improve safety, reduce downtime or boost inspection accuracy, Thermascan ITC thermal imaging training can help you build the right skills for long-term success.
